Are you thinking about moving to the great state of Maine?
I've lived here since 1993.
The truth is no one is moving to Maine. Well.....that's an exaggeration but the number is really small.
Yes, older retirees, higher net worth individuals are moving here (so the can "summer" in Maine) but it's only a trickle.
The BIG PROBLEM is young, aspiring, irreverent entrepreneurs are NOT moving or relocating to Maine!
The number one reason is the HIGH COST of living here and not just money.
It's also a pain doing a bricks and mortar type business in Maine.
The second reason is the weather. However, it's not that bad along the coastline.
The third reason is Maine is
rural, NOT URBAN. People from urban areas RARELY get comfortable here....IMHO.
There are few places as clean, beautiful, inspiring,
safe and interesting.
A massive inflow of passionate entrepreneurs
is not happening.
LaPage has recommended dumping the Maine income tax. We'll never see it
happen. But it would be nice. However, income tax is almost
Maine does NOT want businesses moving here regardless of what politicians say or do.
But really....the entire state needs an overhaul from the top down with regards to BUSINESS.
move here because it's untouched and they can build wildlife easements,
parks, and trusts to protect themselves. Which is fine. But
Billionaires are only here for about 6 weeks. You will rarely find one
here in February.
